Skin biopsy
Skin biopsy is a diagnostic method used to assist the physician when they have insufficient criteria to place an accurate diagnosis.
The procedure involves taking a piece (2-4 mm) from the affected area of the skin or skin growth, followed by histological testing. Depending on your condition, there are four ways to perform a biopsy:
Punch biopsy – performed with a special surgical instrument called a punch.
Shave biopsy – the surface layer of a skin section is removed, leaving a surface wound that heals, leaving a scab.
Deep biopsy – performed using a scalpel to sample deep subcutaneous pathological processes. It is then stitched up; the stitches are removed in 7-10 days.
PAP smear – “scraping” the surface skin layer cells, “smearing” the sample on a microscope slide and performing histological testing.
IMPORTANT
It is recommended to suspend therapy for at least a week before undergoing a skin biopsy.
Histology results are ready in one week at the earliest.
