Capillary and small vein removal
Enlarged capillaries and small veins on your legs are an aesthetic issue for many men and women of various ages. They occur for different reasons: hereditary predisposition, hormonal issues (as a result of pregnancy, menopause, or hormone intake), unhealthy lifestyle, obesity, an unbalanced diet, lacking essential nutritional microelements, being exposed to extreme temperatures, etc.
Using lasers to remove enlarged capillaries and small veins is the most advanced, noninvasive and effective therapy available to deal with this problem. The procedure is safe and suitable for erasing both small capillary networks and veins up to 4-5 mm in diameter. The procedure is performed using a Nd:Yag laser. The energy emitted from the laser destroys the vascular walls without damaging the surrounding tissue. The result is eliminating the red, purple and blue vascular networks on the surface after just one procedure.
This treatment is suitable for both men and women but is contraindicated when undergoing sclerotherapy.
IMPORTANT
The procedure is performed by a dermatologist who has been trained and certified for it. This ensures a successful outcome and the patient’s safety.

What does the procedure involve?
The treating physician marks the areas to be treated. Immediately before treatment, ice is placed on the area to desensitize it. During the procedure, each impulse fired by the device causes light to moderate pain. Before treating larger veins, the area is treated with light anesthetic cream or injected with local anesthetic for greater comfort. Throughout the procedure, the area is cooled using a jet of cold air.
The therapy’s duration depends on the number of blood vessels to be treated. For example, a 10×10 zone requires about 10 minutes.
What are the contraindications?
It is recommended to discover the underlying cause behind this condition to prevent or minimize the reoccurrence of enlarged blood vessels.
It is advisable to avoid exposing the area to sunlight 4 weeks before therapy. The procedure is contraindicated for patients with venous leg ulcers. It is not recommended for pregnant women or people with light sensitivity.
Immediately after the procedure, you may notice redness and swelling which will pass within 2 days. The larger treated blood vessels will turn grayish or brownish, and fade within 2 weeks. In rare cases, some treated vessels could form a dark scab which falls within 2 weeks. After treating larger blood vessels, you might feel pain in the treated areas during the first 2-3 days. If your vascular walls are thin, it’s possible to notice brownish coloring around the treated vessel which will slowly fade in 2 to 6 months.
When does the treatment take effect and how long does it last?
For smaller capillary networks, the effect is instantaneous, and big purple and blue veins take from 2 to 6 weeks to fade. In the majority of cases, you will need 2 or 3 procedures to achieve the desired effect.
Laser therapy cannot prevent the reoccurrence of new capillaries or veins. That’s why it’s necessary to regularly undergo maintaining procedures to remove newly appeared capillaries.
How many procedures should I undergo and how often?
The number of procedures necessary to achieve the desired effect is based on the skin’s state, the number and specifics of the blood vessels. Usually, 4 procedures are sufficient to erase all capillaries and small veins.
If new blood vessels appear, you should repeat the treatment.
